Dateline 5/6/2002 - State College, PA
Well spring has sprung and with the help of our resident computer geek/wizard Rev. Harton our website has bloomed. Lotsa cool new things to check out... thanks Rev!
First off, take note that on Thursday nights Acoustic Poets will be starting at 9 PM and not 7 PM at Zeno's... that starts Thursday, May 16th and lasts through the summer...
"It's All Good" has been recorded here at Woobie Cat Kitchens for a 2-CD compilation of Pennsylvania bands to be released soon (?) on Cornucopia Records (run by our friend Charles Havira). These discs will be for sale at gigs and right here on our website, so stay tuned.
Also new and ready-to-go is "Woobie Cat's Early Spring Mix" available here on the website and locally in State College on May 23rd. It's an EP (shorter than a record, longer than a single) of 9 tunes all recorded here at Woobie Cat Kitchens... all acoustic (excepting that one with pedal steel).
It will feature 'acoustic' versions of two tunes from the upcoming Kris Kehr & Stone Poets CD "Crows" to be released later this year (?) and a few country tunes we all enjoy playing, an improvised guitar piece by yours truly and Dr. Dave Mudgett, a new tune from our own Kelly Countermine, an old one of mine and a demo of a new 'Poets tune... got that?
Here's the track listing.
1. Saturday (kris kehr)
2. Walkin' (kris kehr)
-- Both are acoustic versions of songs from the upcoming album by
KRIS KEHR & STONE POETS CD called "CROWS"
3. Dark Hollow (bill browning)
4. Railroading On the Great Divide (ap carter)
5. Lost Highway (payne)
-- These are a few covers we enjoy, with acoustic guitar help from our
own Dr. Dave Mudgett...
6. Pretty Much (kehr/mudgett)
-- An improvised guitar duet/instrumental
7. Field Of Green (kris kehr)
-- One of my first songs, a little on the bluegrass side of things...
8. What I Got (kelly countermine)
-- A powerful one from kelly, done by the acoustic trio...
9. The Highway (kris kehr)
-- A demo recording of a new Stone Poets song.
With the help of the ever-wonderful Dave Staab we will once again have a "free CD" night, this time at Zeno's on May 23rd. Show up at our gig and get a free copy of the "Early Spring Mix"! ONLY ONE, and after that you'll have to buy one of our regular discs to get a free one... that goes for gigs AND here on the website...
ALSO, last but certainly not least, it looks like I've made some new friends! Stone Poets have opened up for the West Virginia based band The Recipe a few times, but this time I get to play guitar and mandolin WITH them on a few dates. I had a wonderful time sitting in with them in Kirkersville, OH on May 3rd, and it looks like the party will continue. If you'd like to hear the results of that gig, the fine folks at livemarblehoedown.com have the complete show available for download. Also check out porchparty.com (a COOL bunch of Recipe friends) or the band's official website at therecipe.com
