I hope everybody had a great end-of-the-year blow-out and are resting comfortably…
Lots of good musical stuff happening in the near and somewhat-less-near future, starting with this weekend.

-Friday, January 6th I’ll be solo acoustic at the Hitching Post in the bar just north of the Reading, PA Airport on Rt. 183 from 8 to 11, no cover.

-Saturday the 7th I’ll be breaking out a new electric/acoustic blues project with bassist Ray Hoffman and drummer Matt Cullen at Bixler’s Lodge in Mt. Penn, starting around 9PM, no cover.  No name for the project yet and we’re still looking  for that 4th member, guitar or keys, but power trio ahead we will…. The setlist includes a few original bluesier tunes mixed in with some jammier groove-based covers.

-Sunday is the first rehearsals for the upcoming Pavlov’s Dawgs reunion shows, starting March 31st with a huge show at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem, PA and a set at the spring Pinnacle Jam in Kempton, PA on May 19th.

-There will also be a Garcia Grass set in Kempton that weekend, fingers crossed.

-Next week I record a new Homegrown Radio segment with radio personality/producer George Graham at WVIA Studios, broadcast date tba.

-Friday the 20th – I return solo acoustic to Manley’s in Johnson City, NY 9PM, no cover

-Saturday the 21st – I’ll be at The Eagles Mere Inn in Sullivan County playing solo acoustic in the bar.

This week on Tuesday, October 4th I’ll be doing something new, hosting a Bluegrass Jam at the Stonersville Hotel. It will be somewhat informal, not an open mic but a song circle where more simpler players can jam along with more experienced ones who want to take leads, taking turns round-robin style. I’ll try to anchor things with guitar and songs and we’ll see where it goes from there.  Festivities start at 8PM although the hotels’ doors open at 6PM with a limited pub menu and $4 Stouts Oktoberfest Pints. Hopefully we can continue this every first Tuesday of the Month.

Also this week I’ll be back at Building 24 in Reading, PA with banjoist Joel Henry on Thursday, October at 8:30PM, no cover.

Friday, October 7th I’ll be doing a solo show at Stout’s Brewery in Adamstown, PA 7:30 to 10:30

The new season of Black Mountain Underground, my music blog has started. Check out free podcast downloads dedicated to the music of Bill Morrissey who passed away this summer as well as mix shows, a Bill Monroe series from last season and so much more. A new mix show is in production and should be posted thios week sometime…

I’ve also been plundering the Woobie Cat Productions Vaults and posting shows on the Archives. Recent posts include Kehr/Stetz at the Bush House in Bellefonte, PA in 2001 and a solo show from when I lived in Black Mountain, NC in 2005 as well as a plethora of Stone Poets shows from various stages in State College while I lived there.

Wednesday, September 14th – opening for Good Lovin’ Jam Band solo acoustic at Reading Phillies Stadium/no game, just a night of music at the stadium – doors at 6PM, show at 7…

Friday, September 16th – Julie and I will do a set from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Reading Bandshell with music and other free events continuing until 10PM

Also, I’ll be sitting in with a new performer to the area, Drew Kelly from the Scranton/WB region – he’s a strong singer-songwriter who also does a mean young Dylan and will be playing at The Pillar Lounge on Morgantown Road this Saturday the 17th – I’ll sit in on mando, sl;ide, etc for a few, very informal, come enjoy!

I havn’t been updating this website through the summer as much as I’d like to and I apologize for that, I had a major pinched nerve in my left shoulder that took me down for the count in the month of August, the result of too much moving, carrying and everything in general. I’ve got the mobility back in my left hand and alot of the arm and tho not completely %100 my playing is and I will be getting back to shows starting this coming weekend.

I originally thought I wouldn’t be able to do the two Garcia Grass shows scheduled for this weekend but that’s changed, easy to hold the mandolin and play and I’ve been at it everyday. Saturday, September 10th Garcia Grass plays the Kempton Music Fest presents Pinnacle Jam in Kempton, PA at 5PM. The next day Garcia Grass will be back at it with a slightly different line-up at Meeting of the Minds located in Poyntelle, PA (25 miles NE of Scranton). Our set is early on Sunday, starting at noon.

Next Wednesday, September 14th I ‘ll slip into my solo suit and open for the Good Lovin’ Jam Band at Reading Phillies Stadium starting at 7PM.

I’ll also be back at the Hitching Post solo acoustic (on 183 just North of the Reading Airport) on Friday, September 30th 8-11PM

My Music Blog called Black Mountain Underground started it’s 3rd season this past week with the first two episodes of a series dedicated to one of my favorite singer-songwriters who recently passed away, Bill Morrissey. Downloads are free or you can just listen. Mix shows will resume after the 4 volume series is completed.

Also, I will be starting to give beginning and intermediate country guitar and mandolin lessons in my home near Leesport e-mail me if interested.

I hope everybody’s staying cool. I am in the process of moving into my house for the first time, complete with downstairs studio and so Woobie Cat Productions finally comes home. If only Woobie made it to see, but he made it 17 years and that ain’t bad for a cat. Lots of other things came and went during that time, including my music career, although it’s come back a hair. But it hasn’t been without it’s complications, I started off the year spending an awful lot of money and time learning the music of Mike Mizwinski for his 5-piece Miz project only to be replaced with the guy who’s producing the album halfway through the recording. I’m saying this here only because there has been no formal announcement from the band and the audience is not stupid or there to be disrespected and so I’m telling you what happened...onward….Garcia Grass started off the year promising but took a back seat to other things in the spring, but as the year rolls on more is popping up with some pretty sweet festival appearances listed dowb below on the schedule.

I also have a few shows on the books with a ‘Bluegrass Trio’, a direct hearkening back to the days of the Hot Trio, an early bluegrass version of Stone Poets with Bill Stetz on upright in the mid-90’s. That time it was Charley Rury on fiddle, this time it’s Anthony Hannigan from Hickory Project and who also plays in Garcia Grass. I will eventually come up with a name for that group but until then when you see ‘Bluegrass Trio’ or ‘KKT’ on the schedule you know that it’s me, Bill & Anthony playing acoustic music; some original, some not but all exciting and earthy. I’m also playing a bunch with a great guy and awesome frailing banjo guy Joel Henry. I’ve been helping him work on his album for a while now (which is about to come out) and did a gig together last month at Building 24 in Reading. We return there this coming Thursday and will be circling back in there on a regular basis. Same with my solo show and Reverb and the Hitching Post, both awesome and both also in Reading, PA. It’s looking to be a good summer.

As I’ve been packing for the big move I’ve been going though some of the Woobie Cat Archives storage and started listening to a series of recordings of Kris Kehr & Stone Poets from the first couple years we played together, even before we even had a name for that band. The first tape from ‘97 was labeled’ Band’ and I didn’t mean that in a Levon kind-of-way. These tapes are something special to me personally, moments of development and achievement that illuminate the present for me, and perhaps point toward the future a bit as well. I transferred, mastered and edited each one using some mastering tools like EQ and some compression as well as cutting out silence between songs and just generally tightening things up before uploading them to the Archives as whole shows rather than cutting them into live album collections as I did with a some of this material in the past. It’s kinda easy to picture the inside of some of the better-known music bars of State College in the late 90’s with these recordings and a set of headphones, if you were there I recommend it. If you were not you will hear the best of that bands’ performances from Zeno’s Pub, The Phyrst, Crowbar, Cafe 210 and even a private biker party mixed by Tom Edmonds, the mixing wiz who produced ‘Long, Long Year’ and has been Lenny Kravitz’ house sound mixer for years. I tried to find first the best sounding, best played shows but also tried to include the key moments for us when I could.
