January 20th, 2010

In light of the passing of the great American songwriter Bobby Charles this past 1/14, here is a recording of Kris Kehr & Stone Poets performing one of my favorite songs of Mr. Charles called ‘Down South in New Orleans’ recorded live at The Brass Lantern 12/21/07 by Big Daddy. download is free…

DOWN SOUTH IN NEW ORLEANS

To all of you in the State College, PA area this weekend, I have two shows starting with a solo acoustic show this Saturday, January 23rd at The Bar in Boalsburg, PA at 10:30 PM. Located next to Kelly’s Steak & Seafood (the place with the giant cow on the roof) on business Rt. 322, the Bar is a small listening room with a lot of character.

The second show will be at Zeno’s Pub on Sunday the 24th with JK on upright bass and other friends sitting in which may, at any time, include the other guys in Stone Poets, Rev. James (keys), Dr. Dave (pedal-steel) and either drummers Matt or Justin. My Sunday night residency will continue through the spring, every Sunday from 9 to 12.

Next Saturday, January 30th I return to Ludwig’s Inn and Oyster bar in Glenside, PA with a solo show starting at 8PM, no cover.

Saturday, February 6th I will play mandolin as part of a tribute to the acoustic music of Jerry Garcia, in particular the 35th anniversary of the release of the Old & In The Way album with Dylan and Pappy from Cabinet, Mike from Miz and Anthony Hannigan from Hickory Project. The show is a one-off, so the only time you can catch it is at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Tickets Here…
Here is a recent show I did with Dylan & Pappy at the Jazz Cafe-

I’ve also been rehearsing with a different group of heads doing a wider variety of Jerry’s acoustic music in a project tentatively titled ‘9 Finger Saloon’…we’ll most likely start with a show at the Brass coming up, I’ll have more on that soon…

Friday, February 12th Julie and I return to Bixler’s Lodge in Stoney Creek Mills at 10PM, no cover.
Here is a Kris and Julie Kehr show with guest fiddler Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth) recorded at the Stanhope House 10/29/06 thanks to Todd Jones…this is a bit-torrent download…

Saturday, February 13th I’ll return to the Five Points Inn in Trumbauersville, PA with a solo acoustic show at 8PM, no cover.

On Saturday, February 20th, Kris Kehr & Stone Poets ride again with a show at Pub II in Danville, PA at 10PM

You can hear me live on the air every Thursday on The Phil Stahl Show broadcast from the LCCC campus on WXLV FM from 3 to 6PM. I get to play a few songs every week as well as chat with my old pal Phil. The show itself focuses on the local music scene and unsigned musicians, so if you’re interested in getting some recorded music on air, or if you’d like to come in and perform live, send me an e-mail, I’ll get it to Phil.
